Hello families,
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Five more wake ups! I have a few announcements for the coming week.
- 8th grade parents if you misplaced your information about graduation it is posted on our website. https://stealth.westsideunion.com/ Remember that if your child is walking the stage they must attend school on Wednesday and Thursday to be a part of graduation practice so they can walk the stage on Friday.
- 8th grade parents and anyone not returning to Joe Walker for the 24-25 school year if your child has a school issued Chromebook please return it to the office with the power cord no later than Wednesday, June 5th. Students will not receive their diplomas until the Chromebook is returned.
- For those families who received a letter about the awards, remember it is Wednesday night 6/5/24, 6th and 7th is at 4:00 pm and 8th is at 5:00 pm. Please enter the gym from the L-12 entrance.
- Thursday and Friday are minimum days. Students are released one hour early.
- Please talk to you child about following all school rules. There are no water guns, spray bottles or any other inappropriate items at school.
- I would like to announce that I am retiring at the end of this school year. It has been an honor to be the Principal of Joe Walker Middle School and to serve all of the Joe Walker Community. I wish everyone the best in your future.

Hello Families,
I have a few announcements for you.
- If your child has 100 merits this semester they are invited to the 100-merit party on Monday for 6th / 7th grade and Tuesday for 8th grade during 7th and 8th period and received a letter today. If your child would like to attend please complete the permission slip and return it tomorrow, Friday May 31st.

CLASS OF 2024
GRADUATION INFORMATION
Graduation is Friday, June 7th, 2024
Graduation is an exciting time for our 8th grade students, including a number of special activities. Participation in these activities is based on “Board Policy for Promotion:”
Students not meeting these criteria will NOT be eligible to participate in any of the graduation activities. Additionally, students will NOT be eligible to participate in graduation activities if any of the following items or fees have not been returned or paid: textbooks, library books, PE locks, book damage fees, cafeteria fees, etc. The deadline for paying for these items is Friday, May 20th. |
Dear Joe Walker 8th grade parents,
Save the dates! I hope that the following information is helpful for planning of your student’s 8th grade graduation. We will be sending out more details on activities as they become available. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. We look forward to this fun and exciting time with your student.
END OF THE YEAR ACTIVITIES
- 8th Grade Awards Ceremony: The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 5th at 5:00 pm. in the gym. Presidential, CJSF, ASB, Honor Roll, Principal’s List, 4.0 GPA, and Valedictorian awards will be presented at this time. Parents are encouraged to attend the awards ceremony. Please enter from the parking lot on Avenue L-12 near the track.
- Graduation Celebration: The celebration is scheduled for Thursday, May 30th from 5:00-7:00 pm at Joe Walker. This celebration is for Joe Walker 8th grade students only who have met the above requirements. Price and dates for permission slips will be coming in the future.
GRADUATION CEREMONIES
The ceremonies will take place in the Joe Walker Gymnasium on Friday, June 7th and will last approximately 45 minutes. Each student will receive four guest tickets during the school day on Thursday, June 6th . There will be two graduation ceremonies, as follows:
Ceremony Doors Open Student Arrival
9:00 am 8:30 am 8:30 am
11:00 am 10:30 am 10:30 am
The following is a breakdown of Advisory Teachers for each ceremony:
9:00 Ceremony (Blue Group)
Advisory teachers: Adams, Anderson, L, Anderson M., Barnum, Chronis, Hurlburt, Coleman, Fields
11:00 Ceremony (Red Group)
Advisory teachers: Oddo, Patterson, Paguyo, Ready, Squires, Tsoi, Wilson, Wahlquist
Students will be staged on the basketball courts north of the gym. They will enter the gymnasium through the north entrances.
Students must attend graduation practice on Wednesday, June 5th and Thursday June 6th in order to participate in the graduation ceremony.
Families with graduating siblings will attend the 9:00 am ceremony if there is a conflict in their scheduled times for graduation. Please see Mrs. Smith in the office to make these arrangements.
DRESS CODE (for the graduation)
Choose your attire in good taste. Please think of what is appropriate “special event” attire for an 8th grade student. Students will not be allowed to wear strapless (even with a jacket), revealing dresses, shorts, t-shirts, tuxedos, or ripped or torn jeans. Nice jeans or dress pants are suggested. Wristlets, corsages or boutonnieres are fine. Students may not carry anything during the ceremony.
PARKING
We recommend all attendees use the parking lot on Avenue L-12 near the track. Entrance to the ceremony for family and guests will be at the southeast corner of the gymnasium.
