Parent Info
At Joe Walker Middle School, we believe that the success of our students is built upon a strong partnership between families, school staff, and the community. There are many opportunities for parent involvement, both at the school and district levels, that help shape a positive and supportive educational experience.
District-Level Engagement
Parents are encouraged to contribute to the broader educational community by joining district-level committees such as the District Advisory Committee (DAC), the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC), and the Superintendent’s Advisory Council. These committees play a vital role in helping guide the direction of the Westside Union School District.
School Involvement Opportunities
At Joe Walker, we are proud to offer a variety of events, programs, and activities throughout the year where parents can actively engage in their child’s education. Some of these opportunities include:
- Back-to-School Night
- Parent-Teacher Conferences
- School Site Council (SSC)
- Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)
- English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
- Honors Awards Assemblies
- AVID Parent Meetings
- Athletic Events
- Robotics Tournaments
- Extra-curricular Activities
We encourage parents to attend monthly SSC, ELAC, and PTA meetings, and to consider running for office in these organizations. Additionally, we welcome parent volunteers to support our academic programs under the guidance of classroom teachers, and to assist at school events such as dances, athletic games, and field trips.
Staying Connected
Communication is key to fostering a strong school community. To stay informed, we encourage parents to make ParentSquare their go-to resource for receiving important updates and announcements. In addition to ParentSquare, we provide information through:
- School Website
- Newsletters
- Automated Phone Service
- PowerSchool for student progress
- Teacher Communications
We value your involvement and know that together, we can ensure every Jet takes flight and reaches new heights.
Many of our programs and activities thrive thanks to the generous support from parents and local businesses who contribute to the West Antelope Valley Educational Foundation (WAVE). These contributions not only enhance the educational experience for our students but also help foster a vibrant, well-rounded learning community. With your continued involvement, we can offer enriching opportunities that allow our students to soar to new heights.

Uniform Complaint Procedures
The Westside Union School District has the primary responsibility for compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. We have established Uniform Complaint Procedures (UCP) to address allegations of unlawful discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying, and complaints alleging violation of state or federal laws governing educational programs, the charging of unlawful pupil fees and the non-compliance of our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).
